Yoshizawa Hodō

Born in Omiya City, Saitama Prefecture on August 7, 1900, Yoshizawa Hodō, (birth name Kamaki), began his shakuhachi studies at the age of 18 with Ogawa Nandō. Upon Ogawa's recommendation, Yoshizawa sought out Araki Kodō III and became his student. By the age of 25 he was given his teaching credentials and the performance name Hodō. He specialized in Kinko-ryū honkyoku, but also loved playing classical sōkyoku and jiuta pieces. He was much loved by his many students.
