2 | Ten'i | 天為 | 06'17 |
尺八: 山本 邦山 | |
This Shakuhachi solo was composed in traditional "Honkyoku" style. Hozan Yamamoto told about the motif as follows : "Bamboo, grown up in barren soil, is made to Shakuhachi by high human technique. When I am impressed by naive tone of Shakuhachi, I am reminded of human power which conquered nature by natural way. I tried to express in this composition a wonderful world of human beings creating something by law of nature, as the saying is “Heaven has no mouth, and speaks through human lips."

This composition is classified into two parts, one impromptu solo part in classical "Honkyoku" style, and another duo part (including trio, quartet, and quintet) in crisp rhythm and folk· song-like melody. Various forms appear alternately, e.g. after solo part follows duo part, then follows quintet part and so forth. Major scale and minor scale are clearly contrasted in this composition.
5 | Tsuido - Shakuhachi Duet 1 | 尺八二重奏曲 「対動 (ついどう)」1 | 09'00 |
尺八: 山本 邦山 尺八: 宮田 耕八朗 | |
This is a functional composition with a light and happy and bright theme. It looks as if two Shakuhachi were playing about joyfully. There are three movements, the 1st high, the 2nd low, and the 3rd high tempo. |
